Our client is an international investor in RES projects including solar, wind and battery storage with a global presence and long term experience working in Poland. For their Technical Department we are now searching for a Grid Connection Manager to lead the electrical design and grid connection process during the development phase of the project.
Make an impact on the project development phase:
- Provide technical assistance during project development and ensure the factors influencing and influenced by the grid connection are considered,
- Carry out technical due diligence and risk assessment on grid connection conditions/agreements offered by the Polish TSO (PSE) and DNOs (in particular: TAURON Dystrybucja, ENEA Operator, ENERGA Operator, PGE Dystrybucja),
- Manage Technical Advisors and Consultants to support Grid and Delivery related activities across Poland,
- Develop and maintain relationships with the Polish TSO and DNOs to support the grid application and delivery process,
- Manage and be responsible for the process of grid applications ensuring they are submitted in a timely manner. Progress through the Polish TSO’s, DNOs’ and national requirements and processes without delay.
Take part in projects’ construction phase:
- Review the technical designs submitted by HV/MV contractors or EPCs to company requirements and to achieve cost efficiency without compromising quality,
- Be responsible for “grid intelligence” and implementation of new connection methods arising from the Polish TSO/DNOs policy changes and changing industry standards,
- Develop and maintain relationships with HV/MV contractors and EPCs to drive performance and ensure they deliver their services,
- Develop and maintain relationships with the Polish TSO’s and DNOs’ design and delivery teams ensuring projects progressing smoothly through the project lifecycle,
- Negotiate and develop grid connections design that reduce installation time and cost whilst maintaining or improving plant performance,
- Support the operation and maintenance of the plants by providing grid expertise to the Asset Manager & O&M team managers throughout the life of the plant.
Build, maintain and optimize knowledge databases together with developing expert tools:
- Support the business intelligence with GIS spatial data solutions (QGIS, ArcGIS) integrating raster and vector data (including AutoCAD) with the flexibility of Google Earth software,
- Provide and gather cost estimates together with grid connection delivery timescales,
- Analyze and and track changes of Polish planning documents, e.g. published on websites of the Polish: ERO (URE), TSO/DNOs, power facilities, industry and sector experts,
- Aggregate possessed knowledge and documents to have the best possible insight on the current and future situation in the Polish energy sector.
KNOWLEDGE
- Strong technical knowledge of EHV, HV (60-400kV) and MV (11 – 30kV) connection works and industry standards, including substations, underground cables and overhead lines is a must,
- Knowledge of TSO’s/DNOs’ connection procedures and administrative authorizations required for connection of renewable plants in Poland (including securing interconnection capacity), together with grid code compliance is very important,
- Ability to work with software mentioned in “DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES” is important. Experience and practical application of software programming languages (e.g. Python, VBA) is welcomed,
- Knowledge of the dynamic and power quality compliance studies, power flow/voltage, stability/short-circuit (e.g. DIgSILENT, SSE, PLANS), economic dispatch simulations (e.g. PLEXOS) would be beneficial,
- Candidates with practical knowledge of Polish grids would be given preference.
ACADEMICS:
- Preferably a degree level qualification associated with electrical power systems and/or electrical engineering,
- Candidates with additional qualification in renewable energy especially PV and Wind would be advantageous.
EXPERIENCE:
- Proven track record & experienced in a similar role,
- Candidates with experience of working directly for TSO/DNOs and/or power system consultancies will be preferred,
- Good network of contacts across the TSO/DNOs and EPC/ICP environment is welcomed,
- Commercially astuteness and previous experience in the design and construction of PV solar plant would be a plus.
