Our client is an international IPP with an important portfolio of projects in Poland under construction and development at the moment. We are seeking an experienced Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Manager to oversee the development, operation, and optimization of utility-scale and commercial energy storage projects. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient system performance, compliance with regulatory standards, and strategic planning, including system sizing to meet project and market requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end management of BESS projects, from design through commissioning and ongoing operations
- Oversee system sizing activities to ensure optimal capacity, performance, and cost-efficiency based on project needs and grid requirements
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to deliver projects on schedule and within budget
- Monitor revenue and system performance, analyze data, and implement improvements to maximize efficiency and reliability
- Support in choosing the best equipment for the projects, making sure it passes all QA tests and certifications
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
- Manage vendor relationships, including battery suppliers, integrators, and service providers (potentially add here all service providers? Instead of the point I added below)
- Develop and maintain operational procedures, maintenance schedules, and emergency response plans
- Support financial modeling, forecasting, and reporting related to energy storage assets
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and market developments
- Act as central coordinator across internal and external stakeholders (engineering, asset owner, aggregators/optimizers, operators, suppliers and banks) to ensure alignment on technical and operational decisions
- Support financial and energy market teams ensuring alignments between technical design, revenue strategy and project bankability
- Overseeing BESS utilization strategies, including dispatch optimization for efficiency, charge/discharge management for reliable operation, and alignment with energy market signals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in energy storage, renewable energy, or power systems
- Strong understanding of battery technologies, grid integration, and system sizing methodologies
- Experience with project management and cross-functional team leadership
- Familiarity with energy markets, regulatory frameworks, and safety standards
- Proficiency in data analysis and performance monitoring tools

- Knowledge of local regulations in terms of building and connecting power generation and energy storage systems
Work Environment:
This role may involve a mix of office-based work and site visits to operational facilities. Some travel may be required depending on project locations.
