PROJECT ENGINEERING MANAGER

Are you a seasoned engineering professional with experience guiding industrial projects from preliminary design through tendering, construction and commissioning? Would you like to apply your knowledge of the Polish engineering and construction market while collaborating with an international team?

We are seeking a Project Engineering Manager to act as our local engineering representative in Poland. The initial assignment will involve supporting the delivery of three geothermal facilities in Poznań, with additional projects anticipated as the portfolio expands.

The role

You will serve as the main technical interface between the engineering team in Denmark and local contractors, consultants and suppliers in Poland.

The Danish team is responsible for developing the initial concepts and Pre-FEED designs. Your role will be to support the transition from these early-stage designs to comprehensive tender documentation and successful project execution. You will ensure that the original engineering principles are maintained throughout implementation while safeguarding the long-term performance and operational needs of the facilities.

A key part of your responsibility will be to promote scalable, modular and standardized engineering solutions, adapting them to local conditions without compromising the overall design philosophy.

Key responsibilities

Turn preliminary designs into deliverable projects
  • Build a detailed understanding of the Pre-FEED documentation, including the technical rationale behind the main design decisions.
  • Support the preparation of EPC tender documentation based on design material developed by the Danish engineering team, ensuring it is suitable for implementation in Poland.
  • Identify missing information, technical interfaces and country-specific requirements, working with the Danish team to resolve outstanding issues.

Manage technical tendering and contractor evaluation

  • Coordinate and lead technical tendering activities for buildings and process installations.
  • Handle technical queries from prospective bidders, providing responses where possible and involving relevant specialists when necessary.
  • Review and compare technical bids, identify scope differences and deviations, and contribute to the assessment and selection of contractors.

Maintain engineering standards and protect long-term asset performance

  • Review detailed engineering documentation submitted by EPC contractors and coordinate input from relevant technical disciplines.
  • Verify that the proposed designs remain consistent with the original Pre-FEED concepts, internal engineering standards and applicable Polish regulations.
  • Evaluate design modifications in terms of reliability, ease of maintenance, whole-life costs and opportunities to reuse standardized solutions in future projects.
  • Facilitate coordination between process, mechanical, electrical, automation, civil and building engineering disciplines.

Contribute to construction, commissioning and project handover

  • Represent the engineering function locally during construction, working with contractors and the Danish team to address technical challenges.
  • Attend site coordination meetings, inspections and technical reviews to help ensure that the work meets the required standards.
  • Assist with commissioning preparations, functional testing, performance validation and the transfer of completed facilities to the operations team.
  • Document project experience and lessons learned to improve the execution of subsequent developments.

Your background and qualifications

We are looking for an established engineering professional, typically with 10–30 years of relevant experience, who offers:

  • A degree in mechanical, process, energy, chemical engineering or a comparable technical field.
  • Extensive experience in the engineering and construction of industrial process facilities in Poland, ideally in the energy sector.
  • A proven track record in EPC tendering, technical proposal assessment and the review of detailed engineering designs.
  • Good knowledge of Polish engineering and construction practices, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • The ability to coordinate complex, multidisciplinary engineering activities while drawing on specialist expertise where appropriate.
  • Full professional fluency in Polish and a strong command of English.
  • Flexibility to travel to project sites across Poland and make occasional trips to Denmark.

Experience in district heating, thermal energy installations, commissioning or working as an Owner’s Engineer would be a strong advantage. Familiarity with geothermal projects is beneficial but not a prerequisite.

Your approach

You combine sound engineering judgement with a pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset. You are comfortable working autonomously, taking responsibility for resolving technical matters and engaging the right experts when additional input is required.

You can challenge contractors constructively, communicate the reasoning behind engineering decisions and establish productive working relationships across different disciplines and cultures. You also understand that successful project delivery means more than completing construction: it requires creating facilities that remain reliable, maintainable and efficient throughout their service life.

Why take on this opportunity?

This position offers the chance to help develop a local engineering capability in Poland and play a meaningful role in shaping the delivery of geothermal infrastructure.

Working in close cooperation with an international engineering team, you will contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from early design development to commissioning and handover. You will also help establish consistent engineering and delivery practices that can be applied across an expanding portfolio of projects.

Interested in the role?

We would welcome an overview of your experience delivering industrial process facilities in Poland and an introduction to the expertise you could bring to the position.
